The Children’s Advocacy Center needs a bigger facility and the Cherokee County Chamber has one to spare.

But the brick and mortar structure will have to be moved. Otherwise it will be torn down to make room for the new Gadsden State Community College-Cherokee County Campus complex.

During the March breakfast meeting of the Chamber, Lori Lumsden, executive director of the Advocacy Center, shared a proposal to move into the current building occupied by the Chamber on the Cedar Bluff Highway in Centre.

“We have a building, but we need a place to put it and we need some way to pay for the moving,” Lumsden said.

“We also want to get rid of the debt we have on our current facility so that we can move the Chamber building. The space we have now is just not adequate for parenting classes and the multidisciplinary team sessions.”

Lumsden urged those in attendance to keep the Advocacy Center in mind when they consider making charitable contributions.

“These folks do a wonderful job because they are protecting our future and they deserve a round of applause,” said John Boggs, administrator of operations, Cherokee County Nursing Home.

“We are really excited about the Gadsden State Community College Complex,” said Thereasa Hulgan, executive director, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.

“It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Cherokee County.”

“Our 2006 Corporate Games will be coming up the first weekend in June,” said Hulgan. “We are putting together a committee now to help us with all of the plans.

“If you are interested in getting more involved in Chamber events, this is a great event. It is a lot of fun.”
