The Chamber of Commerce is vacating its current facility to make room for the Children’s Advocacy Center.

Over the past year, the Chamber learned that its current building, located at 801 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre, would have to be razed to make room for the new Gadsden State Community College Com-plex which will include a nursing school. The Advocacy Center Board of Directors, noting that the center has outgrown its current facility, expressed an interest in purchasing the current Chamber building and moving it to another location.

A few weeks ago, the Cherokee County Commis-sion agreed to purchase the Advocacy’s Center’s property on North River Street, which enabled Advocacy Center personnel to expedite the process. The center’s new location is on Commerce Road in Centre.

The Chamber offices will be housed inside the new Gadsden State Community College Complex and the Chamber will be located in temporary housing at 110 Northwood Drive in Centre while the new Gadsden State Center is under construction.

Thereasa Hulgan, executive director, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, and Barbara Cochran, administrative assistant and others have been busy moving whatever they can into the temporary headquarters.

“We have mixed emotions,” said Hulgan. “It is sad we’re having to leave our building, but we are proud of our organization.”
