Citizens are reminded that the Cherokee County Christ-mas Parade is set for this Sat-urday, Dec. 2, at 10 a.m., down Main Street in Centre.

This year’s parade will be-gin at D.C. Gas in Centre and will end at Centre Elementary School. Lineup will begin at 9 a.m.

The City of Centre will be the Grand Marshal for this year’s parade WEIS Radio Personality Jerry Baker will emcee the event.

The reviewing stand will be erected at the intersection of Main and South River streets. However, viewers are invited to watch the parade at any point along the route. Pre-parade entertainment will feature vocal and instrumen-tal music performed at the reviewing stand. Members of the Spirit of Cherokee (the parade’s sponsoring organiza-tion) met last Tuesday night to finalize plans for the big event.

Attendees emphasized that judging of floats would be done before the parade so that travel breezes would not dam-age the floats before judging. Floats must be in line by 9 a.m. order to be judged. (Sev-eral out-of-county residents will serve as judges for the parade floats).

Three cash prizes will be awarded in each of three float categories: schools, churches and community organizations, and businesses.

At last count, approximately 50 and 60 entries had signed up for Christmas Parade 2006 and they were still coming in Monday, Nov. 27, said Barbara Cochran with the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.

Johnny Roberts, who has been a member of The Spirit of Cherokee for many years, assists with the lineup every year. The Cherokee County Christmas Parade usually has 100 or more entrants and they are expecting a good year this year also, Roberts said.

Santa will ride the fire truck at the end of the parade and throw candy to children along the parade route. Addi-tional information about the parade may be obtained from the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce (927-8455) or the Spirit of Cherokee (526-1200)
