A Georgia man remained lodged in the Cherokee County Detention Center facing multiple charges after leading law enforcement agents through a high speed chase in Cherokee County and parts of Etowah County Monday afternoon, Feb. 5.

Arrested, according to reports, was The driver, 59-year-old James Lee Horace Jr., 59, who was charged with speeding, attempting to elude, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless endangerment.

A local police officer, reports said, initially clocked a a Ford Winstar van going 81 miles per hour in a 45 mile-per-hour zone in Centre. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated and began the chase which at times exceeded 100 miles per hour.

The driver led officers through Centre on U.S. Highway 411 to Gadsden, apparently striking an undetermined number of vehicles along the way. He apparently tried to ram a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputy’s vehicle during the chase, reports said.

Alabama State Troopers deployed spikes on Ewing Avenue in Gadsden to stop the vehicle. The Windstar hit the spikes and proceeded further until the tires were blown. The vehicle slid off the roadway and hit a road sign on Albert Rains Boulevard near the golf course, according to reports.

Horace, reports said, had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was returend to Centre to face charges
