Three people, including both drivers, were injured in a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Alabama Highway 9 South Friday morning, June 8. The accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 9 and Cherokee County Road 18.

Those injured, according to reports, were Stan Love, 37, of Adairsville, Ga. and Danny Brown, 37, of Piedmont and one passenger. They were transported to hospitals for treatment. One was airlifted via helicopter to a Birmingham hospital.

The Cherokee County Rescue Squad used the jaws of life to extricate at least one person from the vehicle. Other responding units included Cherokee EMS Ambulance Service, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Ellisville, Spring Garden, Piedmont and Centre Fire Departments and at least one rescue vehicle from Piedmont, reports said
