Liberty Day in Cedar Bluff should be out of this world this year. One of the major attractions will be space simulators from the NASA Space and Rocket Center.

The simulators are used in NASA’s Space Camp program.

Another high-flying attraction will be the ferris wheel, which will be behind the Weiss Mart.

“We’re hoping to have an even bigger crowd than last year,” said Delmas Brewster, who is helping organize the event, which will be Saturday, June 30.

“I think the space simulator will be a highlight,” he said. “It’ll be just like you’re in space.”

This is the 15th year for Liberty Day, which partners with the Southern Rodders’ Classic Antique Car Show.

The Atlanta Puppeteer show will be back this year, and helicopter rides and rock climbing, big hits in previous years, also will return, Brewster said.

Entertainment will include cloggers, music and singers. The Blackland Band will perform throughout the day and fiddlers will be walking the park, showing off their talents.

Jon Alverson from the band Restless will entertain from 6 p.m. until the fireworks show begins at 9 p.m.

“I think it’s bigger and better than ever,” Mayor Martha Baker said. “And more donations are coming in.”

The fireworks will be set off to music that listeners can tune in on the radio.

“Everybody turn your radios up full blast and you can hear it all over the county,” said Council Member Ethel Sprouse.
