At least one person was seriously injured in a collision between a Waste Management Garbage Truck and an 18-wheeler owned by Cherokee Milling on Alabama Highway 411 Friday morning, July 13. The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. in front of WZTQ Joy Christian Radio Station on 411 north.

Driver of the 1999 Freightliner was identified as Lincoln Salter of Albertville. Driver of the garbage truck was indentified as Jimmy Holcomb, 34. According to reports, Salter airlifted by Lifeforce helicopter to Erlanger Medical Center for treatment. Holcombe was transported to Cherokee Medical Center..

Traffic was blocked most of the day Friday as crews removed the vehicles and debris from the roadway. There were also concerns about cleanup of diesel fuel which leaked onto the roadway and nearby roadsides, reports said.

Responding agencies including the Centre and Ellisville Fire Departments, Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, Cherokee County Rescue Squad,Cherokee County Sheriff's Department and the Centre Police Department
