The Centre Optimist Club made Christmas a little brighter for some 30 local needy families this year.

The Optimist Club worked with the Nettie King Brown Clearinghouse in securing the applications of the families most in need and provided each family with groceries along with vouchers for toys and clothing for each child.

Cherokee County Schools participated in the drive by asking students to donate canned or perishable food items.

Students from Tammy Steed’s art class at Cherokee County Career and Technology Center sorted the food in the sanctuary of Centre First Baptist Church recently.

One class divided the food items into various categories. The other class took up where they left off by placing the items in paper sacks to get them ready for delivery.

The Optimist Club delivered the food the weekend of Dec. 15-16.

The club has made the Christmas brighter for area residents for many years with this annual program
