A Spring Garden man was arrested after leading law enforcement agents on a high-speed chase in Cherokee and Etowah Counties Thursday evening. The chase began around 7:18 p.m. on Cherokee County Road 59 and ended in Hokes Bluff.

Authorities identified the suspect as Rickey Darrell Jackson, 44. He was charged with unlawful possession of a conntrolled substance, driving under the influence, reckless driving, attempting to elude, running a stop sign and driving on a suspended license in Cherokee County.

Hokes Bluff Police also charged Jackson with criminal mischief in the third degree, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence and other traffic violations in Etowah County.

According to reports, Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a red Ford Probe on Cherokee County Road 59 near the Cherokee-Etowah County line. The vehicle sped away and the deputies pursued the vehicle on Etowah County Road 71 near Centre.

Deputies notified Hokes Bluff police who deployed spikes at the intersection of Days Circle and County Road 71. The driver still failed to stop even after agents put out two tires on the vehicle.

The chase continued to the four-way stop, south on Alford Bend Road. While traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 278, the driver hit a Cherokee County Patrol Car head on, reports said.

The driver was transported to Cherokee Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, reports said.

Jackson was lodged in Cherokee County Detention Center, according to reports
