The Cherokee County Lady Warriors (1-1) christened their new softball field with a doubleheader against Piedmont last Friday, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 8-6 in game one but losing 12-4 in the nightcap.

Jessica Griffith secured the win in game one, striking out two batters.

Piper West went 4 for 6 with six RBI's and two runs, Bridgett Roberts went 4 for 6 with two runs, Jamie Jackson went 4 for 8 with one RBI and two runs, and Loren Law went 3 for 7 with one RBI and one run.

In the second game, Cherokee County had a 6-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh, but Piedmont came up with 12 runs in its final at bat and held on for a 12-8 win.

West provided the hosts with their first run, as the senior centerfielder's single drove in Cothran to give the Lady Warriors an early 1-0 lead.

The Cherokee County offense heated up in the fourth, as Piper West smacked a bases-loaded double to right-centerfield that scored Cothran, Roberts and Griffith. Anna Rodgers' double then scored West, and the hosts were up 5-0.

West stepped up once more in the sixth, as her single scored Roberts and put the Lady Warriors up 6-0.

The Lady Bulldogs, however, were not ready to head back to Calhoun County. 15 consecutive hits scored 12 runs in the top half of the seventh, and although Witt and Walker scored respective runs in the bottom of the inning, Piedmont held on for the split
