Cedar Bluff (22-5) once again had Gaylesville’s number this season, as five Tigers scored in double figures enroute to a 103-63 victory over the No. 5 seed Trojans at the 1A, Area 10 Tournament last Sa-turday.
With No. 1 seed and No. 10 ranked Cedar Bluff up 76-45 lead after three quarters, the only suspense left was at what point would Tiger junior guard reach the 1,000 point milestone.
Moten obliged with 4:55 remaining in the game, as a three-pointer gave him 1,001 career points.
Brandon Langley led the Tigers with 21 points, followed by Moten with 17, Timmy Bradley and Mad-drick Long with 15 each and Roger Jones with 10.
Langley and Jones each grabbed 15 rebounds.
Moten dished out 13 assists, while Timmy Bradley had six.
Langley came up with four steals, followed by Bradley and Moten with three each.
Micheal Slayton scored 28 points for Gaylesville, followed by Scott Lay with 16 and Chris Steele with 13.
“We played about the way I ex-pected, and I’m glad that we came out on top the way that we did. Micheal Slayton hurt us tonight; we should have done a better job of boxing him out. Spring Garden played well against Appalachian, and we have to get ready for a tough game.”
Slayton’s lay-up in the opening seconds was the Trojans’ first and last lead of the contest, as Langley scored the first 10 Cedar Bluff points to spark the Tigers to a 26-12 advantage after the first eight minutes.
Slayton’s 15 second quarter points kept Gaylesville in the game, but the Tigers outscored the Trojans 30-20 in said time span to take a 56-32 lead at the half.
Ray Flynt’s three-pointer at the end of the third frame put the hosts up 76-45, and Cedar Bluff cruised through the final eight minutes on the way to a spot in the finals.
