The camp focused on movement and tracking skills that are also used in sports such as basketball, softball and baseball, as well as racket skills and stroke production of forehand, backhand and serve. Each camp participant received a variety of Cartoon Network merchandise.
Camp Director and Professional Tennis Registry Certified Instructor Jerry Benefield was assisted by former college tennis players Lorie Howell, Gina Farrar and Jennifer Harris.
Camp Skill Award winners included Preston Grimes, Paden Spriggs, Allison Harris, Kimberly Parker and Jake Minnix.
City of Centre Mayor Phil Powell, City of Centre Councilman Henry Wright and City of Centre Parks and Recreation Director Charles Glazner attended the awards ceremony and assisted with the presentation of certificates and awards.
“On behalf of the City of Centre, I would like to thank Jerry Benefield and his instructors for the great job they did with the tennis lessons,” said Powell. “The awards program was very exciting for the kids and was a great idea. I will support this type of activity 100%.
