Thanks to Jeffrey Wood’s standout rushing performance and a clutch defensive play by Maurice Dupree, the Warriors (4-2, 2-2) are right back in the thick of he Class 4A, region 6 playoff hunt.

With Cherokee County nursing a seven point lead and host Jacksonville having a first down and goal on the Warrior 1 yard line late in the fourth quarter, Dupree recovered an Eagle fumble to preserve both the Centre squad’s 21-14 victory and second consecutive region win.

The hosts went up 7-0 on Ricky Davis’ 82-yard touchdown run, but CCHS tied the game on the following possession with an 80-yard, 13-play drive that was capped by Wood’s 28-yard touchdown run.

Jacksonville regained the lead midway through the second quarter on Daniel Pressley’s 22-yard touchdown run, but Wood’s scored on a five-yard run just before halftime to force a 14-14 tie.

The Warriors then notched the winning score on the second half’s opening drive, when Adam Wickham and Wood connected for an 11-yard touchdown.

Wood gained 171 yards on 24 carrie
