Awards for achievement were presented for the 15th year to student athletes who by sheer determination have overcome obstacles to achieve a level of success in a sport.
Each of eight region winners per class received a $1,500 scholarship.
The overall winner in each class received an additional $3,000 scholarship.
From that select group in each category came the overall winner, who received an additional $3,000 scholarship.
In addition to the individual awards, the school of each class winner will receive $2,000 and the school of each overall winner will receive an additional $1,000.
The captain of the Bulldog football and wrestling teams, Warren lived in an abusive household for nearly all of his life while helping raise his brother, who has special needs.
Warren took the initiative to request DHR for a group home setting for him and his brother so they could have a better chance in life.
An outstanding athlete in football, wrestling and track, Warren maintained As and Bs and scored a 26 on his ACT while caring for his brother.
The other Achievement Award class winners were Section’s Benjamin Isaac Ryan (1A), Lineville’s Odessa Person (2A), St. James’ Emily Ann Meadows (4A), Albertville’s David Ferguson (5A) and McGill-Toolen’s Jared Rehm (6A)
