Spring Garden faced some stiff competition during last Saturday’s Jacksonville Invitational Tournament, but the Class 1A No. 2 Lady Panthers (36-6) were the last team standing in Golden Eagle country.

In the championship game against Walter Well-born, the Garden Girls came from behind for a 20-25, 25-18, 25-15 victory.

Spring Garden went 3-1 in pool play, starting off with a 21-25, 25-17, 25-20 setback to the host Class 4A No. 3 Lady Golden Eagles.

That was the last loss that the Lady Panthers would suffer, however, as the Garden Girls proceeded to upend Lawrence County (21-25, 25-13, 25-12), Saks (25-17, 25-15) and St. Clair County (25-10, 25-17).

Spring Garden then swept Class 2A No. 4 Geraldine, 25-16, 25-14, in the semifinals.

For the Lady Panthers, Mikie Garner contributed 76 kills and 22 blocks.

Britney Parris collected 50 kills.

Whitney Mobley distributed 89 assists, while Candie Hairrell dealt out 60.

Twyla Haggermaker came up with 65 digs
