The Tigers scored three early touchdowns off three Section fumbles and never looked back, hammering the Lions 47-14 to take sole possession of first place in the region
Cedar Bluff used big play after big play to build a 47-7 halftime lead.
Following Derek Chesnut’s fumble recovery and an offside penalty on the Lions, Terry Covington scored the first of his four touchdowns on a 49-yard run to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead.
The Tiger defense continued to make plays on the Section’s next possession, when on a third-and-10 Cruz Butts’ sack caused a fumble that Terry Henderson recovered at the Lion 26.
Cedar Bluff cashed in the turnover with a 14-yard touchdown run by Covington and a two-point conversion by Jeremy Bryant for a 14-0 lead less than four minutes into the game.
Section got a 67-yard kickoff return to the Tiger 23 from Tyler Rogers, but the Lions fumbled again after reaching the Cedar Bluff 2.
Scott Rice came up with the football in the end zone, and six plays later Coving-ton’s 31-yard touchdown run pushed it to 21-0.
Stevens got Section on the board with an 11-yard touchdown run on the final play of the first quarter, but Cedar Bluff responded with a three-yard touchdown run from Bryant to take a 27-7 lead.
Jamie Hampton scored from three yards out on Cedar Bluff’s next possession to make it 33-7, and the Tigers got another score on Covington’s five-yard run.
Section went into hurry-up mode in an effort to add another score before halftime, but the Tiger defense had other ideas.
To avoid a sack, Stevens tried to throw the ball down field, but instead threw it into the arms of Josh Hampton, who ran 74 yards for the touchdown.
Covington gained 142 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries, while Jeremy Bryant rushed 13 times for 100 yards and a touchdown.
Rodney Guins carried the ball 10 times for 50 yards, while Matt Wilson gained 49 yards on six attempts.
Jamie Hampton completed 3-of-5 passes for 39 yards.
Jo Jo Morgan had sven tackles, followed by Bryant with six and Chesnut, Hampton, Henderson and Butts with five each.
Covington, Hayes and Henderson each had a sack, while Chesnut, Butts, Rice and Bryant each recovered a fumble
