The Class 1A No. 2 Lady Panthers (45-6) swept Jacksonville Christian Academy, 25-10, 25-9 and 25-8, 25-16 in the 1A, Area 10 Tournament at Spring Garden.
It was the Garden Girls’ third straight area championship.
Spring Garden and JCA advanced to the Class 1A, Region C Tournament at Athens Bible on Saturday, along with Cedar Bluff, Gaylesville, Donoho, Athen Bible, Mount Hope and Faith Christian
“At this point, I think we know what to do in all situations,” said head coach Ricky Austin. “Over the last couple of tournaments, we’ve shown signs of brilliance but also a lack of sharpness. As long as we pass well, good things will happen. We’re mixing it up more on the front line, and we’ve been getting good results.”
Mikie Garner had 19 kills, followed by Britney Parris with nine.
Whitney Mobley distributed 21 assists, while Candie Hairrell dished out 15.
Parris and Mobley each served up five aces.
In game 1 of the first match, the Lady Panthers posted leads of 9-2 and 16-4 o the way to the win, while in game 2 Parris’ four straight aces helped pull the hosts away down the stretch.
In the title match, the hosts went up 9-2, 13-3 and 20-7 before Garner’s kill at game point sealed the game 1 victory.
In game 2, JCA drew within 16-12 before an 8-1 Spring Garden run effectively put away the Lady Thunder.
Garner and Parris were selected as the tournament’s co-Most Valuable Players.
Mobley and Hairrell also made the All-Tournament team, along with Jacksonville Christian’s Stephanie Hughes and Emily Miller and Victory Christian’s Caitlin Bearden
