The Nov. 6 competition started in a slight chill at John Hunt Fields but soon heated up with Sand Rock’s 0 - 0 tie against Madison.
Sand Rock’s second game ended with a 2 - 1 victory over Hazel Green, resulting in a tournament advance to the Nov. 7 competition.
On Nov. 7, Sand Rock played Monrovia to a 1 -1-overtime tie. Sand Rock’s Chandler Mackey and Stethan Chandler each made match deciding kicks from the penalty mark.
Goalkeeper Dylan Mackey stopped all of Monrovia’s shots for a thrilling victory for Sand Rock.
In the championship game, Sand Rock fell to Huntsville 2 -1 in overtime, but it was not due to lack of effort or heart.
With this being these boys’ first opportunity to compete at tournament level, their performance was well noted by coaches for the other teams.
Youth soccer teams from nine regions in Area 5C competed for top honors in the 8 & 9 year old division.
