Cedar Bluff’s strong second half helped propel the Lady Tigers to a 68-36 Class 1A, Area 10 win over Gaylesville last Tuesday (Jan. 18).

After Cedar Bluff went almost seven minutes without a field goal, Amber Moseley’s basket at 6:56 of the third quarter forced a 22-22 tie.

The Lady Tigers re-grouped shortly thereafter, as Cedar Bluff (4-16, 3-2) emerged from the period with a 41-31 lead.

Gaylesville never got within shouting distance over the final eight minutes, as the Lady Tigers opened the fourth frame with a 15-2 stretch that essentially put the game away.

Audrie Rucker was the visitor’s top gunner, as she poured in 30 points while adding nine rebounds and five steals.

Jessica Brannon followed Rucker with 15 points, while Caroline May posted a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Cassandra Waldron paced Gaylesville with 10 points, while Moseley added nine.

Rucker’s nine first quarter points helped Cedar Bluff take a 12-3 advantage after one quarter, while her basket at 6:20 of the second frame made it 11-point Tiger lead.

That was the last Cedar Bluff field goal until early in the third quarter, however, and Gaylesville’s subsequent 15-4 run drew the hosts within 20-18 at halftime.

May’s basket at 6:04 of the third frame restored the Lady Tiger lead for good, and Rucker and Brannon each scored nine points during the fourth quarter to help secure Cedar Bluff’s area victory.

CEDAR BLUFF (67): Audrie Rucker 30, Jessica Brannon 15, Caroline May 11, Leann Moten 5, Leigha Blake 3, Emilee Gossett 2, Tina Moten 1.
