Cedar Bluff (2-3) split a volleyball tri-match last Thursday, defeating Gaylesville 18-25, 25-16, 15-12 and losing to Jacksonville Christian Academy, 14-25, 25-18, 7-15.

The Lady Trojans fell to JCA, 17-25, 15-25.

For the Lady Tigers, Caroline May had 10 kills, followed by Brittany Combs with eight, Brittany Newman with five and Leigha Blake with four.

Combs distributed 10 assists and served up eight aces.

Emilee Gossett had six aces, while May had four blocks.

Jessica Brannon came up with five digs.

For the Lady Trojans, Amber Moseley had four kills, five aces and five digs.

It was too little, too late for the Cedar Bluff last Tuesday (Aug. 30).

Trailing Collinsville 2-0 in a Class 1A, Area 11 best-of-five match, the host Lady Tigers won the third game to draw within 2-1.



The score was tied 14-all in game 4, but an 11-2 Lady Panther run ended the hosts’ comeback bid with a 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-16 win.

“We just didn’t communicate out there today,” said Cedar Bluff head coach Terry Hopper. “We made mistakes that should have been corrected before the season began. We’ll just have to concentrate and get better.”

The Lady Tigers saw their 13-4 lead in game 1 cut to one after a 9-0 Collinsville run.

Cedar Bluff had a 22-21 advantage, but the Lady Panthers notched four straight points for the win.

The score was tied at 9-9 in game 2 before Collinsville drew away with a 7-0 run.

The Lady Tigers cut their deficit to 18-14, but the visitors outscored Cedar Bluff 7-3 down the stretch to go up 2-0.

The hosts were ahead 21-13 in game 3 before the Lady Panthers’ 9-0 run forced a 22-22 tie.

Cedar Bluff secured the victory following a time-out, but Collinsville recovered in the next game to earn the area win.

For the Lady Tigers, Combs had 10 kills, followed by May with nine, Kendra Goss with seven and Blake with five.

Combs dealt out seven assists, while Goss added four.

May served up 10 aces, while Combs had five
