Collinsville justified its No. 5 ranking in Class 1A last Friday.

Helped in large part by a 29-4 second quarter run, the Panthers improved to 14-4, 7-1 with a 90-53 Class 1A, Area 10 victory over Gaylesville (1-15, 0-8).

Five players scored in double figures for Collins-ville, led by Kory Oliver with 18 points.

Jake Miller chipped in 16 points, followed by Robert Gray with 13, Bryant Chandler with 12 and Corey Williams with 10.

Tait Blankenship led the Trojans with 12 points, while Rick Peek scored 11 and Chris Bias 10.

“The kids played hard right to the end,” said Gaylesville head coach Drew Davis. “That’s the best that I can say about tonight.”

After Bias’ basket drew the hosts within 7-4 early in the game, the visitors embarked on an 11-2 run that helped put them up 18-9 at the end of the first quarter.

While Gaylesville went scoreless for the first 5:14 of the second period, the Panthers ran off a 14-0 stretch.

Manuel Perry’s three-point basket with two seconds left in the first half only sliced Collinsville halftime advantage to 47-19.

The visitors led 65-36 after three quarters, and Chandlers’ three straight three-point baskets during the fourth quarter highlighted the stretch run.
