Gaylesville’s season came top a thundering end last Tuesday (Feb. 7) at Spring Garden.

Sparked by Miles Weatherspoon’s 20 points, No. 4 seed Jacksonville Christian Academy handed the No. 5 seed Trojans a 63-45 defeat in the Class 1A, Area 10 Boys Tour-nament.

Trailing by seven points at the end of the third quarter, Chris Bias’ basket 17 seconds into the final period cut the Thunder lead to four points.

That was Gaylesville’s high-water mark, however, as JCA closed out the game with an 18-4 run.

The Thunder meets No. 1 seed Spring Garden on Friday.

Corey Reid added 18 points for JCA, while Joey Webb chipped in 10.

Rick Peek scored 17 points for Gaylesville, followed by Tait Blankenship with 11.

Reid’s three three-point baskets and 11 points pro-pelled the Thunder to a 19-11 lead after one quarter.

The Trojans fell behind 26-13 with 5:51 left in the first half, but Peek’s basket with 1:46 remaining cut the Gaylesville deficit to four points.

Logan Huggins’ two baskets over the final 42 seconds then gave JCA a 34-26 halftime advantage.

The Trojans kept within striking distance in the second half, as Peek’s traditional three-point play with 42.9 left in the third frame trimmed the Thunder lead to 45-39.

Bias’s basket then made it 45-41 in favor of JCA, but Weatherspoon’s 11 fourth quarter points helped send JCA onto the semifinal round.

JCA (63): Weatherspoon 20, Reid 18, Webb, 10, Herring 6, Huggins 4, Read 3, Watts 2.
