Four players scored in double figures and every team member scored in the No. 1 seed and No. 1 ranked Lady Panthers’ 83-41 area tournament semifinal win over No. 5 seed Gaylesville last Friday at Spring Garden.
Coming out of halftime with a 20-point lead, the hosts outscored the Lady Trojans 48-23 in the second half to ad-vance to Monday’s title contest against No. 2 seed Jackson-ville Christian.
Paige Anderson and Bridget Parris each scored 17 points.
Parris connected on 4-of-7 three-point basket attempts, all in the fourth quarter. As a team, Spring Garden shot 42 percent (13-for-31) beyond the three-point arc.
Hannah Hutcheson added 12 points, while Jessie Barnes chipped in 11.
Whitney Mobley grabbed nine rebounds, followed by Anderson and Parris with eight each, Nicole Ledbetter with seven and Kelly Painter with six.
Anderson distributed six assists, while Barnes handed out five.
“Offensively we played well, but we must improve on defense,” said Spring Garden head coach Ricky Austin. “It’s headed in the right direction. I give Gaylesville credit. They really improved this season and did a good job in this tournament.”
Carla Borja Prats led Gaylesville with 14 points, followed by Cassandra Waldron with 12.
Waldron pulled down eight rebounds, while Sloane Brewster had six.
Borja Prats dished out five assists.
With the hosts leading 23-13 after one quarter, Anderson’s six points during the second frame helped Spring Garden take a 35-18 halftime advantage.
Hutcheson scored nine of her points during the third period, with the Lady Panthers posting a 53-23 lead after 24 minutes.
Parris’ 17 fourth-quarter points put the finishing touches on Spring Garden’s first win of the 2005-06 playoffs.
