Moseley, who guided the 2004 and 2005 Guntersville High School volleyball teams to the Class 4A state championship, recently accepted the head volleyball coaching position at Shorter College in Rome, GA.
A 1989 CCHS and 1993 Vanderbilt graduate, Moseley brings solid credentials to the Lady Hawk program.
During his eight years at CCHS, Moseley led the Lady Warriors to six Elite Eight berths and three state runner-up finishes. Moseleys career record stands at an impressive 479-158, including a 377-137 mark at CCHS.
Moseley noted that the timing was right to accept the above challenge.
I always wanted to win a state championship in high school, so if I had done this a few years ago, I probably would have felt that I didnt accomplish what I set out to do. It worked out very well.
I dont think that it will be very different than high school when it comes to coaching volleyball. The players will be more mature, but it all comes down to treating your players with respect and allowing them to do their jobs.
I was real close to the Guntersville players and parents, and it was hard to leave the girls, but theyve got some good talent and should continue their success.
Moseley was named 2004 and 2005 Marshall County Coach of the Year and 1999 Cherokee County All-Sports Coach of the Year. In 2000 and 2004, he was selected to coach the North team in the Alabama North/South All-Star volleyball game.
Moseley coached numerous all-state players and had 13 players earn college volleyball scholarships, including Cherokee Countys Amy Hellums, Tiffany Rieger, Jenni Trammell, Mandy Cothran, Heather Walker, Thrisa King, Tadshi Dupree and Anna Kisor.
Were extremely excited to have Jon as our womens volleyball coach, said Shorter College Athletics Director Ricci Lattanzi. Jon comes to us after a tremendously successful career at the high school level. He can obviously coach and develop players. He has an extensive network of contacts at the high school level, which will benefit him greatly in the recruitment of talented players to Shorter.
The Lady Hawks, who compete in the NAIA Southern States Athletic Conference, went 17-10 last season.
