Nothing runs like a Tiger?

That belief was true at least for last Friday, as the Cedar Bluff Tigers (2-0, 1-0) ran on all cylinders and managed to whip the Woodville Panthers, 50-0.

After Terry Covington’s first quarter touchdown run, the Tigers ran all the way to their first region victory of the year over the visiting Panthers (0-2, 0-1).

Jamie Hampton led Cedar Bluff with 66 rushing yards and a touchdown. Thomas Washington picked up 45 yards on five carries.

Hampton completed 3-of-5 passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns.

Terrell Irons led Cedar Bluff in receiving with 51 yards and a touchdown. Lucas Pruitt added 15 yards and trip to paydirt of his own.

Justin Thompson led Woodville with 50 yards on the ground in 11 carries.

“We had some mistakes in a hard-fought win last week, but we worked hard to correct those mistakes,” said Cedar Bluff head coach Jonathan McWhorter. “The work paid off, and we came out and played a good game on both sides of the ball.”

Cedar Bluff managed to gain 262 total yards on the night.

The Tigers stingy defense did not allow the Woodville offense positive yardage. Woodville’s offense ended up with –2 yards.

Woodville received the opening kickoff, and on the third play from scrimmage Cedar Bluff’s Cruz Butts recovered a fumble on the Panther 36-yard line.

After a 19-yard pass from Hampton to Adam McElroy, Covington ran 17 yards up the middle for a touchdown. The score was 7-0 with 10:26 left in the first quarter.

The Tigers forced a punt on the next Panther drive, and Cedar Bluff started at its own 34.

On the first play of the drive, Hampton picked up a bad snap and ran 66 yards for a touchdown.

After a missed PAT, the Tigers led 13-0 with 8:06 left in the quarter.

The Cedar Bluff defense managed to get a safety on Woodville’s next drive, making the score 15-0.

Cedar Bluff scored again Covington found the end zone for the second time on an 11-yard run up the middle.

Leading 23-0 at the start of the second quarter, the Tiger defense forced another Woodville punt.

Hampton soon found Pruitt on a 15-yard touchdown pass, and Cedar Bluff led 30-0 with 10:48 left in the second quarter.

Rodney Guins ran for an eight-yard touchdown on the Tigers’ next possession, extending the lead to 37-0 to end the half.

Hampton threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Irons on the very first play of the second half. The Tigers lead grew to 43-0 after the score.

The Cedar Bluff defense forced a turnover-on-downs on the Panther’s next possession, and it took Jim Nelson one play to run for a five-yard touchdown.

With 4:36 left in the third quarter, the Tigers led 50-0.
