For the first time since 2003, the Cherokee County Basketball Tournament boys bracket will feature a No. 1 seed other than Cherokee County High.

Spring Garden has that honor this year by virtue of its 15-5 record.

“We’re glad that we’re seeded first, but [being the No. 1 seed] in this tournament really doesn’t mean a whole lot,” said Spring Garden head coach Jason Howard. “I had some good teams when I was at Cedar Bluff who were the No. 1 seed and didn’t win [the championship]. This tournament seeds by record, and in years past sometimes the No. 4 or No. 5 seed turned out to be the best team.”

The six-time defending champion Warriors (12-7) are the No. 2 seed, followed by Sand Rock (7-10) at No. 3, Cedar Bluff (4-8) at No. 4 and Gaylesville (1-16) at No. 5.
