Not much drama was involved in last Tuesday’s (Feb. 6) Class 1A, Area 13 Tournament play-in game between Cedar Bluff and Gaylesville.

The No. 4 seed Tigers led from opening tip to final buzzer en route to a 77-54 victory at Spring Garden.

Cedar Bluff faces No. 1 seed Spring Garden in Friday’s semifinal round.

The No. 5 seed Trojans never recovered from Cedar Bluff’s 17-5 first quarter run, and the Tigers outscored Gaylesville 23-10 in the second period for a 46-20 halftime lead.

Cedar Bluff took a 58-33 lead into the fourth quarter.

Five Tigers scored in double figures, led by Terrell Irons with 16.

Eighth grader Tyric Scales finished with 14 points, followed by Austin Hayes with 13, Rodney Guins with 12 and Lucas Pruett with 11.

Scales pulled down 10 rebounds, followed by Guins with nine and Hayes and Jim Nelson with six each.

Chris Bias led Gaylesville with 17 points, while Tait Blankenship pitched in 12.

“We had one of our better games offensively, and we didn’t turn the ball over,” said Cedar Bluff head coach Joe Carpenter. “We started out a little slow but came on strong. We’ll have to take our game up another level to compete against Spring Garden.”
