Six area student-athletes were named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association 2007 All-State softball teams.

Spring Garden senior outfielder Jessie Barnes and Coll-insville senior second baseman Lydia Coker were Class 1A first team selections. It was the third straight year that Barnes made the first team.



Cherokee County sophomore Rachel Hale and Cherokee County 8th grader Lauren Millsaps were named to the Class 4A honorable mention team at shortstop and utility player, respectively, while Spring Garden senior catcher Brooke Berry was a Class 1A honorable mention choice at catcher.

Piedmont sophomore first baseman Miranda Givens was selected to the Class 2A honorable mention team.

Whitney Larsen of Vestavia Hills was chosen as Miss Softball.

Joining Larsen on the ASWA Super 10 Team were Amanda Allen (Clay-Chalkville), Sallie Beth Burch (Lawrence County), Laura Callaway Mobile Christian), Lindsey Dunlap (Hueytown), Meghan Harbuck (Baker), Haley Hopkins (Gulf Shores), Jessie Lupardus (Hoover), Kayla Orr (Hartselle) and Hillary Phillips (Ider).
