Volleyball Roundup: Cherokee County sweeps at Pleasant Valley

PLEASANT VALLEY – Cherokee County earned a pair of road wins Thursday, thanks in part to the efforts of senior setter Haley Highfield. Highfield had 32 total assists and 15 total digs in the Lady Warriors’ wins over Wellborn (27-25, 25-19) and Pleasant Valley (15-25, 25-23, 15-7).

“When your offense is slow, I tell my girls to pick it up in other areas of the game,” Cherokee County coach Amy Barnes said. “We blocked the ball very well and served aggressively, even during crucial points in the match.”

“I am proud of the way we didn't quit, and we had many players step up and contribute to these two wins.”

In the Warriors’ (7-5) match with Wellborn, Highfield had 19 assists, seven digs and two blocks. Malorie Rosser added six kills and three blocks. Candace Blanchard came away with seven kills.

Against Pleasant Valley, Highfield posted 13 assists and eight digs. Rosser had seven kills and three blocks. Audra Bradley finished with seven digs.

Sand Rock defeats West End

WALNUT GROVE – The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats improved to 13-1 with an area win over West End on Thursday. The scores were 25-16, 25-12 and 25-16.

Karlie Anderson led Sand Rock (13-1) with 11 kills and four blocks. Jennifer Campbell added seven kills and three blocks. Megan Battles came away with nine digs, five blocks and four kills.

Carrie Robertson posted five aces and four kills. Gena Farmer and Kayla Mashburn had eight and six digs respectively. Logan Smith finished with 23 assists.

Cedar Bluff splits at Blountsville

BLOUNTSVILLE – The Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers earned a split on the road Thursday. They lost their first match to Holly Pond 25-20, 25-10, but rebounded to take a 25-23, 25-23 decision over Susan Moore.

Against Holly Pond, Audrianna Hargitt led Cedar Bluff (8-11) with five kills, two aces and a block. Destiny Humphrey added 10 assists. Hannah Leach had two kills and an ace. Tabitha Combs posted a kill and a block. Maci Hughes came away with a pair of digs. Tanessa Fife and Candria Dupree both finished with a two aces and a kill.

In the win over Susan Moore, Leach led the way with seven kills, three digs, an ace and an assist. Fife finished with eight kills, three aces and an assist. Combs came away with seven kills and a dig. Hargitt had four kills and two digs.

Destiny Humphrey posted 18 assists, two kills, two aces and a dig. Dupree had 13 digs, four aces and two kills. Lauren Barnett had five digs and an ace, and Hughes finished with three digs.
