With the regular season winding down this weekend, volleyball teams across the state are turning their attention to area tournament play.
The best-of-five game, single-elimination tournaments will be held Monday and Tuesday, with winners and runners-up advancing to the regional tournament on Oct. 17.
Area tournament pairings for The Herald’s county teams have been finalized. On Monday, Sand Rock travels to Geraldine in the Class 2A, Area 10 tournament.
Area champion Geraldine (41-13) opens play against Westbrook Christian (2-17) at 5 p.m. Area runner-up Sand Rock (39-9) takes on West End (22-23) at 6 p.m. Winners of those matches will play in the finals at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, Spring Garden (11-15) will host the Class 1A, Area 10 tournament. The Lady Panthers receive a bye and will play at 6 p.m. Their opponent will be the winner of the 5 p.m. match, Cedar Bluff (20-29) and Gaylesville (11-16).
Also on Tuesday, the Cherokee County Lady Warriors travel to Jacksonville for the Class 4A, Area 12 tournament. The host Lady Golden Eagles (32-5) open the tournament against Hokes Bluff (1-23) at 4 p.m. Cherokee County (23-15) takes on Alexandria (18-11) at 5 p.m.
Winners of those matches will meet in the finals at 6 p.m.
Admission to all area tournaments is $6 per person.
