CENTRE – Coty Blanchard has come up with big performances before for the Cherokee County Warriors, but on Friday night against Ashville, he was close to passing perfection.

The senior quarterback completed 11-of-13 passes for 219 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for another score on the ground to lead the No. 2 Warriors to a 61-0 bombing of the winless Bulldogs.

Blanchard accounted for three first-quarter touchdowns. He got the Warriors (9-0, 7-0 Class 4A, Region 6) rolling early with an 18-yard scoring strike to Colin Perry. Isaac Jones added the first of seven extra points to give Cherokee County a 7-0 lead.

Later in the quarter, Blanchard scored on a 9-yard run to put the Warriors out in front 14-0. Gabriel Chambers tallied Cherokee County’s next touchdown – a 49-yard pass from Blanchard – which put the Warriors up 20-0.

D.J. Fife finished the first-quarter scoring for the Warriors on a 7-yard run, which extended Cherokee County’s lead to 27-0.

Fife led the Warrior ground attack with 114 yards on 12 carries and a score. Desmond Brown tallied 81 yards on 12 carries.

Jones tacked on a 27-yard field goal to begin the second quarter, putting the Warriors in front 30-0. Blanchard then hit Fife on a 20-yard touchdown pass, then later connected with John West on a 14-yard scoring strike to push the Warrior lead to 44-0 at halftime.

Jones accounted for the only points in the third quarter, a 40-yard field goal to increase Cherokee County’s lead to 47-0.

Backup quarterback Tanner Young hit Logan Pierce on a 7-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Logan Lecroy capped the game’s scoring on a 10-yard touchdown run late in the fourth for the final.

The Warrior defense limited Ashville (0-9, 0-7) to just 50 yards of total offense. They only surrendered three first downs the entire game and forced the Bulldogs to punt 10 times.

Meanwhile, the offense racked up 527 total yards and 28 first downs.

Ashville was led by quarterback E.J. Moss, who completed 5-of-12 passes for 44 yards. Josh Johnson had four receptions for 16 yards. Austin Whisenhunt had a catch for 28 yards.

Cherokee County concludes the regular season at home Friday against Class 5A Scottsboro and then hosts Haleyville in a first-round playoff game on Nov. 6. Ashville’s season ends at home against Springville on Friday.
