CENTRE – With Cherokee County Schools Superintendent Brian Johnson’s announcement Wednesday afternoon on the closing of county schools due to forecasted inclement weather, basketball games that were scheduled for Thursday and Friday have also been cancelled.

Johnson said the reports he had from the Emergency Management Agency indicated temperatures were not expected to reach above freezing all weekend. With snow in the forecast, Johnson said that prompted the school board’s decision to close county schools at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, with no school on Friday.

There were no basketball games scheduled for Cherokee County teams on Thursday, but on Friday, all five county schools had area games scheduled.

Johnson said those games will now have to be rescheduled at a later time and at the schools’ discretion.

One possibility, he said, would be for the schools affected to cancel a non-area game later in the schedule and replace it with the games originally scheduled for the weekend.
