This topic was addressed during the Jan. 11 meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council.
For the past several years, legal actions have taken place regarding the alcohol sales in Cedar Bluff. According to the council, with the passage of a recent resolution by the state legislature, the Town of Cedar Bluff will proceed with a petition to have the wet-dry issue on the ballot again.
The petition to get the issue to the voters again will require signatures of at least 30 percent of the Cedar Bluff voters who voted in the last general municipal election (August 2008). If this number is acquired, the wet-dry vote will appear on the ballot in June or November 2010.
Naomi Summers, a Cedar Bluff resident and worker for the United States Census, addressed the council and those in attendance concerning the need for census workers in the Cedar Bluff area. According to Mrs. Summers, the average pay is $11.75 per hour plus 55 cents per mile traveled.
Census workers are also paid during the training period. “These temporary part-time jobs offer…flexible evening and weekend hours up to 40 hours a week and the chance to work near home. Workers are needed in almost every community. Call 1-866-861-2010 or visit www.2010censusjobs.gov to learn more.”
The council purchased an ad to be included in the upcoming Review and Forecast Edition of The Cherokee County Herald entitled Developing Visions Reflecting Communities.
The council adopted a resolution to resolve the settlement between the Town of Cedar Bluff and the Utility Board. With the appointment of four members at this meeting, the Utility Board now consists of Eugene Mann, Cindy Early, Linda Pickelsimer, Herb Sherwin and Mayor Ethel Sprouse serving until the time resolution is made between the town and the board.
