Because of the winter weather system passing through Cherokee County, Superintendent Brian Johnson has announced that Cherokee County Schools dismissed at 11:30 p.m. today Friday, Feb. 12.



Other events, including basketball games, have been cancelled or postponed as well. The Sand Rock Varsity Boys's game against Fyffe has been moved to Saturday afternoon, Feb. 13, beginning at 2 p.m.

According to Cherokee County Administrator Tim Burgess, all county offices closed at noon today because of the weather.

All campuses of Gadsden State Community College closed noon. today and remain closed until Monday, February 15. All classes and the GED Test scheduled for the Ayers Campus on Saturday, February 13 have been cancelled, said a GSCC spokesperson.

Emergency crews responded to a number of accidents Friday afternoon as snow began to freeze on roadways, particulary in higher eleveations
