Shane McMahan, coach of the Sand Rock High School Track and Field team, met with the Sand Rock Town Council during its Monday, Feb. 8 meeting to request funds for the team.

The fire department had 11 calls for January, including four wrecks, three false alarms, two structure fires, one ambulance assists and one wood/grass fire.

Council Member Ricky Mackey gave the road report. He reported freeze damage and drainage problems on some of the roadways in the town.

Council Member Julia Smith gave the park report and discussed two projects in the park. One was the mulching around trees and shrubs and spreading of crushed stone on walkways.

During the building and grounds report, council members commended the work of the crew, which recently cleaned up Sand Rock Town Hall. The council also discussed replacing a door and some floor tiles.

In old business, the council discussed the ethics statement for the town and insurance coverage.

As for new business, the town will soon welcome two new businesses to the area with grand openings scheduled for the near future.
