The Cherokee County area will be well represented when it comes to this year’s Final Four in Birmingham.

The Sand Rock Wildcats, Spring Garden Lady Panthers and Piedmont Bulldogs all claimed Northeast Regional Tournament championships at Jacksonville State University’s Pete Mathews Coliseum last week.

Third-ranked Sand Rock (28-3) was the first to punch its ticket after defeating Ranburne 78-61 last Monday and Section 75-67 in the Class 2A Northeast Regional final on Thursday. It’s the second consecutive season the Wildcats have made the state tournament.

Spring Garden (22-9) clinched its eighth Class 1A Final Four trip in nine seasons. The ninth-ranked Lady Panthers defeated Parkway Christian 55-15 last Tuesday and captured a 26-25 victory over Gaston in the Class 1A Northeast Regional final on Friday to earn their latest trip to the Magic City.

Spring Garden faced Central Region champion Sunshine (22-1) on Tuesday at noon at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Complex.

Piedmont (23-8) earned the Class 3A Northeast Regional boys’ title with a 78-73 overtime victory on Wednesday and a 56-40 win over Leeds on Saturday in the regional final.
