Machleit's clutch double enough for Lady Warrior softball team against Ragland

RAGLAND – Cayla Machleit’s two-run double in the fourth inning broke a scoreless tie and provided Lauren Millsaps all the run support she would need in Cherokee County’s 2-0 win at Ragland on Monday.

The win improves the Class 4A, No. 4 Lady Warriors to 16-3 on the season.

Madison Millsaps got the fourth inning started by reaching on an error. Kaitlyn Griffith then doubled to put runners on second and third for Machleit.

Lauren Millsaps got the win in the circle, pitching all seven innings. She gave up three hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Cherokee County will host Hokes Bluff on March 22 in the “Hitting For A Cure” game. Every Lady Warrior player will have a cancer survivor present.

Junior High Softball

Cherokee County roughs up Ragland

RAGLAND – Darby Rosser went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run, two singles and five RBIs to lift Cherokee County to a 16-0 victory at Ragland on Monday.

Taylor Decker went 2 for 2 with a stolen base and a run for the Lady Warriors (3-0). Tori Davis and Madison Brannon both went 1 for 2 with a RBI. Brannon’s hit was a double. Davis scored a pair of runs and had a pair of stolen bases.

Kayle Moon and Courtney Clay were both 1 for 3. Moon had a RBI and scored a run. Clay scored two runs and had two RBIs.

Molly Brewer picked up the win after working just two innings. She didn’t allow a hit and had five strikeouts. Decker relieved Brewer and fanned three in one inning of work.
