Katie Lemons went 3 for 5 with two RBIs for the Lady Trojans (10-3). Katlin Hammett was 3 for 5 and scored twice.
Lemons earned the win in circle, striking out six.
For Gaston, Candace Floyd had a double and two RBI. She also struck out four in the loss for the Bulldogs (2-10).
Gaylesville hosts Jacksonville Christian Academy on Monday.
Cedar Bluff 10, Asbury 4
ALBERTVILLE – Lindsey Lambert helped Cedar Bluff out in the circle and at the plate at Asbury on Thursday.
Lambert pitched the complete game, giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits with a pair of walks and 5 strikeouts. She also added a solo home run at the plate in the Lady Tigers’ 10-4 victory.
Tabitha Combs went 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored and a pair of RBIs for Cedar Bluff (6-9, 1-3 Class 1A, Area 12). Mariah Brown also went 2 for 4 with a double. Amanda McGee was 2 for 4, scored a pair of runs and had a RBI. Katie McGinnis went 1 for 3 with a double and a RBI. Haley Haney was 1 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Kaitlyn Kilgro went 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Darby Abernathy was 1 for 2 with a RBI.
Cedar Bluff will face Jacksonville Christian and Valley Head at home on Friday beginning at 1:30 p.m.
JV Softball
Gaylesville 12, Gaston 7
The Gaylesville junior varsity softball team picked up its first win of the season Thursday, defeating Gaston 12-7.
Samantha Bright earned the win with two strike outs. At the plate for Gaylesville (1-1), Katelyn Van Pelt went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Ashley Parris went 2 for 3 with two RBI, while Alex Montgomery, Chelsey Lands and Dane Vines each added a hit with an RBI.
For Gaston (4-7), Madison Reaves struck out five and walked six in the loss.
Baseball
Spring Garden sweeps Collinsville, 6-1 and 9-4
COLLINSVILLE – Class 1A, No. 9 Spring Garden swept an Area 12 doubleheader against Collinsville on Thursday. The scores were 6-1and 9-4.
Andrew Maddox went the distance for the Panthers (10-6, 4-0) in the first game. He allowed five hits and struck out 13.
Tyler Smart claimed the win in the nightcap. He pitched six innings, allowing five hits with nine strikeouts. Will Westbrook came in and retired the side in the seventh.
Maddox also had a perfect day at the plate, going a combined 8 for 8 in the two games. He had a homer, a double, six singles, a pair of RBIs and scored three runs.
Ryan Messer was 4 for 8 with two runs scored. Will Penton was 3 for 6 with three runs scored and a RBI. Smart had a homer, double and a single. Jake Scott had three hits. Cory Anderson had a single and Trey Littlefield had a sacrifice fly and a RBI.
Shortstop T. J. Brittain accounted for seven putouts.
Spring Garden will be in action at home on Monday in the final two games of the Cedar Bluff series that was postponed on March 11 due to rain.
Golf
Cherokee County finishes second to Hokes Bluff
CENTRE – At the Cherokee County Country Club on Thursday, Jake Minnix shot 38 to lead Cherokee County to a second-place finish behind Hokes Bluff.
Low-medalist went to Hokes Bluff’s Riley Wilson, who shot 37.
As a team, the Warriors shot 175, 10 strokes behind Hokes Bluff’s team total of 165. Crossville shot 208 and Spring Garden totaled 202.
Zack Contris of Hokes Bluff finished with a 38. Jackson Fussell led Crossville with a 40. The Warriors’ Trai West shot 43 and Trenton Edwards came away with a 46. Spring Garden’s Dustin Kerr shot 47. The Warriors’ Daniel Miller finished with a 48.
