Postseason-bound Spring Garden and Sand Rock battled on Monday as a final tune-up in the regular-season finale. Behind Drew Norris’ all-around performance, the Wildcats held off the homestanding Panthers 12-8.
Norris earned the win on the mound for Sand Rock (12-8). He also had two hits, two runs and four RBI.
Chad Thompson added a pair of hits, two runs and three RBI. Dustin Chambers had a hit and two runs. Ethan Jimmerson had a hit and two RBI. Dylan Langley had a hit and a RBI, and Riley Norris had a hit and scored a run.
Matt Graham, Austin Carver, Bryant Beaird and Cody Beck all scored a run, while Austin Chambers and Tyler Garmany both added a RBI. Dylan Mackey also had a hit.
Sand Rock travels to Sulligent to begin the Class 2A state playoffs on Friday. The two teams play a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. A third game, if necessary, will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Spring Garden (16-14) also hits the road in the first round, as it travels to Victory Christian on Friday. Those two teams also play a doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m. in Pell City. A third game, if necessary, will be played on Saturday at 2 p.m.
