The Class 1A, Area 12 baseball coaches have selected their All-Area team. Cedar Bluff senior catcher Jim Nelson was selected as the MVP.
Nelson is joined by fellow teammates Curtis Abernathy and Levi Mintz.
Area champion Spring Garden and the Gaston Bulldogs had the most selections on the team with six. Representing Spring Garden is Jake Scott, T.J. Brittain, Cory Anderson, Andrew Maddox, Tyler Smart and Will Penton.
Dustin Isbell, Brandon Parr, Brandon Jones, Jordan McCartney, Cody Currul and Mason Hall represent Gaston.
Collinsville had three selections in Nathan Coker, Josh Gogus and Tray Reed. Zack Cavin and Brian Sanford were selected from Gaylesville. Taylor Smith represents Asbury.
The Class 2A, Area 12 baseball coaches have also selected their All-Area team. Area runner-up Sand Rock had three selections in Riley Norris, Drew Norris, Cody Beck and Dylan Langley.
Area champion Westbrook Christian had the most selections with five. They were Jacob Mayfield, Chase Saunders, Barr Miller, Jake King and Matt Gross.
West End had three selections in Scott Beavers, Michael Mashburn and Kyle Fulenwider. Josh Strange and Andrew Henderson represent Geraldine.
In softball, the Class 2A, Area 12 coaches have also selected their All-Area team. Area champion Sand Rock leads the team with six selections and two honorable mention.
Gena Farmer was named MVP. Joining Farmer are teammates Taylor Rogers, Amber Henderson, Logan Smith, Magan Parker and Carrie Robertson. Kristin Ray and Tabitha Abernathy were selected as honorable mention.
Area runner-up Geraldine is represented by Ali Duke, Paten Chavis, Caitlyn Roe and Hannah Painter. Katelyn Thacker received an honorable mention.
Brooke Copeland, Morgan Cleveland, Chelsea Journey and Nikki Harris represent West End. Dixie Smith received honorable mention.

Cherokee County senior shortstop Coty Blanchard has advanced to the championship round of the Lions Club East-West All-Stars. He will represent the area on June 11-12 at Samford University.
Blanchard, who has signed to play both baseball and football at Jacksonville State University, batted .524 with 12 doubles, five homers, 17 walks and 29 RBI for the Warriors last season. He also scored 36 runs.

The City of Centre Swimming Pool will open May 29th at noon. Swim lessons will begin on June 1 for children ages 3 to 10 years old. Instructors include Erin Mulkey, Rachel Smith, Betsy Rainer and Kurt Duryea.
Registration forms are available at Centre City Hall, or they may be picked up at the City of Centre Swimming Pool during normal operating hours. It is best that you pre-register your child for class.
The 4 and 5-year-old class time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Ages 6 to 8 will have class at 6 p.m. The 3-year-old class will meet at 6:30 p.m. The 9 and 10-year-old class will also meet at 6:30 p.m. Swim team members will begin their practice at 6:30 p.m., as well.
The City Pool phone number is 927-3511 and is answered during normal pool operating hours. Cost is $40 for your first child and $30 for each additional child. Session I is June 2-4, 7-8, and 9-11. Session II is June 14-17 and June 22-24.
