Sand Rock man indicted for criminal solicitation

A Cherokee County Grand Jury has indicted James Thomas Stimpson, 63, of Sand Rock, on a two-count indictment for criminal solicitation.

The indictment alleges that Stimpson solicited the murder of Lorrette Gilbert. Bond was set at $150,000, according to a press release by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Representatives of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office made the arrest Friday, May 21. Stimpson posted bond following the arrest, according to the press release.

This case is being prosecuted by the Marshall County District Attorney's Office at the request of the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office because of an existing conflict, the press release said.
