Cedar Bluff voters overwhelmingly approved keeping alcohol sales by a vote of 365 to 113 in favor in Tuesday’s election held at the Cedar Bluff Community Center. The total vote count was 478.

The alcohol sales issue has been a hot topic of discussion since voters approved it the earlier part of this decade and many have questioned its legality. Voters initially approved sales in August of 2003, and while alcohol sales have continued in the town a number of lawsuits have been filed. The petition for a new vote drew more than enough signatures for a new vote.

The town has spent a considerable amount of money in legal fees and hopes this vote will put the issue to rest once and for all.

I'm not one to condone alcohol consumption, but that being said putting a stigma on it such as making a county dry in some ways only increases the notoriety and desire for it. The same way with prohibition in the 20's and marijuana in today's society. As a 16 year old student, resident of Centre, and son to an alcoholic, I understand the resentment of having alcohol legal, but in reality one must just come to terms with what the real world is like and accept that there will always be somebody somewhere who is going to drink. No amount of illegality is going to stop certain people. It seems quite pointless to say "oh you can't buy alcohol in this town, it's a dry county" When all one has to do is drive 10 minutes to Cedar Bluff to purchase it.

they are going to buy acohol regarudless if they have to drive all the way to georgia and get thats longer they will be on the road and more risk.

having close who knows they may even walk and get it.

people that drink going to get it regaurdless of where it,s sold at. if the whole county was wet there would be lot more taxes collected.

the county should not get any thing from the sales in cedar bluff unless they follow suit and vote in alcohol sales.that,s just my thoughts on it.

i dont live in cedar bluff but if i did i would vote it wet.

So sad. Alcohol is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people around the country daily. Making it legal and easy to obtain in Cedar Bluff will make a few people a lot of money, but it will do more damage to the community in the long run.

I just hope and pray that those who voted to allow the sales of alcohol plan to attend all of the funerals that WILL come about because of drunk drivers, be by the side of people whose spouses have drunk themselves to death, and sleep well at night with their new-found cash cow.

You traded lives for dollars. Bad deal all around.
