Tuesday Volleyball Roundup: Sand Rock splits with Westminster, Gaston

SAND ROCK – Logan Smith came away 33 assists, four kills and six aces while Karlie Anderson posted 17 kills, six blocks and nine digs to lead the Sand Rock volleyball team to a split at home on Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats (2-2) lost to Westminster 18-25, 25-20, 10-15 and rebounded to defeat Gaston 26-24, 25-15.

Chasitie Goza had eight kills and 14 digs for Sand Rock. Lana Bell added 15 digs. Amber Ashley had six kills and two blocks. Kelsey Hayes had 7 kills. Emily Ozment finished with 14 digs and three aces.

Sand Rock plays again on Thursday at Geraldine in a tri-match with Ider beginning at 5 p.m.

Cedar Bluff sweeps Collinsville, Sylvania

COLLINSVILLE – Audrianna Hargitt posted a collective 15 kills, 14 digs, seven blocks, five aces and three assists to help lift Cedar Bluff to a pair of volleyball wins on Tuesday.

Cedar Bluff defeated Collinsville 25-22, 25-22 and beat Sylvania 25-12, 25-15 to improve to 2-3 on the season.

Against Collinsville, sevens were the lucky number for Hargitt, as she posted seven kills, seven blocks and seven digs. Candria Dupree added 11 digs, seven kills and an ace. Hannah Leach had seven kills and three digs. Lauren Barnett posted eight digs. Raveen McElrath had seven digs and six assists. Brooke Wood managed five assists and Marigrace Wilson finished with three kills.

In the victory over Sylvania, Hargitt had eight kills, seven digs, five aces and three assists. Dupree posted five digs, three aces and two kills. Leach added 10 kills and two aces. Barnett had five digs. McElrath managed six assists and a pair of digs. Wood came away with six assists. Wilson had a pair of kills and Abby Storey finished with four aces.

Cedar Bluff plays at Jacksonville Christian on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.

Cherokee County improves to 5-0

GADSDEN – Kaitlyn Griffith combined to post 14 kills, seven aces and a pair of blocks to lift the Cherokee County Lady Warriors to a pair of volleyball victories on Tuesday.

Cherokee County (5-0) defeated Albertville 25-20, 25-15 and went on to defeat Gadsden City 25-13, 25-11.

“My girls played sharp for both matches,” Cherokee County coach Amy Barnes said. “After watching a previous game film, we adjusted and made the necessary changes to help us improve our game. As a team we passed and served very well, and I am happy about these two wins.”

Against Albertville, Griffith came away with eight kills and three aces. Lauren Millsaps added six kills and eight digs. Cayla Machleit had nine digs and a pair of aces. Allyson Curry finished with 10 assists.

In the win over Gadsden City, Griffith had six kills, two blocks and four aces. Machleit managed eight digs and two aces. Candace Blanchard had seven digs and three kills. Curry came away with 10 assists.

Cherokee County hosts Albertville on Monday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
