Both Cherokee County and Etowah County authorities have continued their search over the weekend for a convicted sex offender last known to be in a Leesburg Motel under a different name.

This past Thursday, Oct. 8, Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver said the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office along with the Leesburg Police Department, Cherokee County DA’s Office and the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search for Registered Sex Offender Clark Wesley Hutchins. Hutchins had registered with Cherokee County as a resident of Cherokee County; it was later determined by Investigator Bo Jolly that Hutchins was not at the address he had provided to authorities. An arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.

Etowah County is also seeking Hutchins in a case there, according to Shaver. Information was obtained that Hutchins had been staying at the Leesburg Lodge Motel under a different name; numerous leads were checked during the day and into the early morning hours that night. A search dog team was called in from St Clair State Prison, the Alabama State Trooper Helicopter with a FLIR was called to assist in the search for Hutchins, and The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences was called to process the motel room Hutchins was staying in. Officers were unable to locate Hutchins because of his having a several hour lead on the Officers.

Anyone with information on Clark Wesley Hutchins is urged to contact The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office or the nearest Law Enforcement agency. A description and photo of Hutchins can be seen and printed from the Cherokee County Sheriffs Most Wanted page located on the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Web Site at www.cherokeecountyalsheriff.com.
